The evolution of two arms table lights with spring balancing mechanism, is one of the most developed ideas in the history of design and is the one where the technical and structural component in the research for balance and mobility dominates on style and formal aspects. In 1992 Tangram’s project by Walter Monici for Lumina, composed by only 2 springs, provides complete mobility for the first time. This means that the upper arm can rotate completely with regards to the lower one while the latter rotates with regards to the base, thus allowing the lamp to reach all possible positions in space. Tangram has large aluminium floodlight which can be used, with no risk of overheating, even with bulbs up to 100W. Moreover it is articulated on two rotation axis for a better adjustment range. Tangram can be inserted on a table base, on a gripper or clutch and can provide the right light quantity by adjusting the power to the expected use. The clamp allows fitting to all horizontal planes up to 5 cm thick such as bookshelves and consoles, while the wall fixing requires only a nearby socket to solve all lighting problems. The floor version can be used near an armchair or a table, though, by adjusting the metal shade upwards, it also provides an easy illumination with indirect and comfortable relaxing light in bedrooms and living rooms. Tangram is therefore a new reference point for the development of the design in this product typology and places Lumina once again at the top of technical innovation and product function.
